My full name is Samantha Dorothy Sew Chung Hong (what a mouth full), but you can just call me Sam.
Sam is a Mauritian woman who is fluent in French and English, sometimes it can happen that she speaks both at the same time! She came from a tiny and beautiful island right off the coast of Madagascar called Mauritius back in 2013. She had the opportunity of studying and discovering her passion for the Fine Arts at the University of Mauritius, and can proudly say that she succeeded in obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree after four long years (above is a self-portrait I drew in mixed media in April 2020 – feel free to click it to have a better look).
Soon after, she came to Vancouver, Canada, to marry her lovely husband and begin a new chapter in her life. She would volunteer at the BC SPCA and work as a graphic designer for three and half years before she realized that something was missing and she wanted a more fulfilling career. Becoming a teacher made so much sense and the idea didn’t stem out of nowhere as both her parents were teachers in high school, and they inspire her to become one everyday.
So here I am, taking the leap of faith by enrolling in all TESL classes at Thompson Rivers University. I’ve only just begun my journey, but with great hopes of becoming a teacher someday.
